Sunday 3rd March 6.30pm –Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by The Reverend Canon James Mustard – “Music as Prayer”
We welcome James Mustard, Precentor of Exeter Cathedral and founding Trustee of the Cathedral Music Trust. James will speak to us about music as prayer and the Anglican Choral tradition.
Sunday 24th March 6.30pm – Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by Professor Nicola Slee – “The Magnificat” We welcome Nicola Slee, Professorial Research Fellow at the Queen’s Foundation, Birmingham and Professor of Feminist Practical Research at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam and a widely published author. Nicola will speak to us about the Magnificat – Mary’s song of praise. Sunday 21st April 6.30pm – Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by The Very Reverend Mark Oakley – “Poetry as Prayer”
We welcome Mark Oakley, Dean of Southwark Cathedral and author of numerous books including ‘The Splash of Words – Believing in Poetry’. Mark will speak to us about Poetry as Prayer.
Sunday 23rd June 6.30pm – Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE – “Personal Prayer”
We welcome The Bishop of London to speak to us about practices of personal prayer and spiritual refreshment.
Sunday 22nd September 6.30pm – Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by The Rt Revd Dr Graham Kings – “Writing Prayers”
We welcome Dr Graham Kings, Hon Assistant Bishop, Diocese of Ely, and founder of the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide, to speak on his creative experiences of the Liturgical Commissions in Kenya and England. Sunday 13th October 6.30pm – Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by The Revd Buki Fatona - "Prayer and Remembering"
We welcome Buki Fatona, Tutor in Christian Ethics at Ripon College Cuddesdon and having recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in Science and Religion, to speak about eucharistic prayer in relation to cognitive neuroscience - 'Prayer and Remembering.'
Sunday 17th November 6.30pm – Evensong with Year for Prayer Address by The Reverend Canon Dr Gordon Giles – “Hymn to the Future”
Author, liturgist, member of the Editorial Board of the Revised English Hymnal and Canon Chancellor of Rochester Cathedral, Gordon will speak to us about the use of AI in prayer and hymnody, asking – ‘Can AI write a hymn?’ Is it any good – and can it be worship?
